Built by G F Wanhill at Poole in 1889, her hull is carvel built of oak frames, oak and pitch pine planking and bronze fasteners. She is cutter rigged with gaff sails.

In 120 years Thalia's name and her use have remained unchanged. She is prestigiously registered with the UK National Maritime museum, as a vessel of historic importance. From 1890 to 1918 Thalia was in Ireland where she raced with success out of the Royal Cork Yacht Club. Her current owners sailed her to the Caribbean in 2007 and this means she is now the oldest yacht to have crossed the Atlantic

Much of the her interior is still in its original form.
The panelling in the saloon along with the hatches, fittings and the willow patterning in the heads are original as they were in 1889.
